You, curious reader, are not easily categorized. You may or may not have ever lived out of a backpack, used a cathole, or had to protect your food from bears. You may or may not have awoken to an elk snorting outside your tent, passed through three different habitats in a single day's hike or had your schedule dictated by the sun rather than a clock. Perhaps you have questioned how setting a ski resort lodge on fire aids lynx populations or the consequences of a “multi-use” management philosophy in our national forests. And perhaps you have pondered (whether at home or out in the wild) Thoreau's oft-quoted comment, “in wildness is the preservation of the world.” Whatever your experience, your perspective is unique from that of the next reader.
