Answer to What is This #1 (posted 08-16-2009):
Dale found these jelly-like egg sacs while wading around in the shallows of Bear Lake. They are either frog or salamander egg masses. They are like something from an alien planet! We could use the expertise of a good herpetologist to identify them further.

Looks to be all metal? The rods throught the middle of the "bubbles" make me think of some sort of fledgling solar water heater. I say solar because the metal would heat up in the sun, (especially if it was black all along) and although it would not possibly provide anything more than luke warm water I personaly think anything is better than freezing water year round! Maybe the rods were heated and that is how the water was heated? Okay, tell me, how wrong am I? Go ahead.. make me feel silly! Sonya

I expect to get the next blogs to post vial priority mail about 4 days after they leave Northport (they are due there sometime around 8/18-8/23.) This is a piece of equipment left here by an oil co. around 1900. It was brought up here by a team of horses. It fell through the ice and was never recovered. The oil co. went bankrupt. Thank God this area was made into a national park. Can you imagine oil rigs up here?! I got all this from the park ranger. I forgot what he said the exact name of the thing was. Cheryl
